NRHM Scheme: Students to get full treatment
It’s not going to be the usual routine check-up and data entry process during this year’s health scheme for school students, if the promises made by the authorities are to be believed.
Rather than a mere one-time check up, a mechanism has been devised to ensure full treatment of a student who has been diagnosed with an ailment.
“This time we’ve introduced ‘follow-up’ scheme under which the student will be offered free treatment periodically till he/she fully recovers from the illness.
For this we have tied up with private hospitals willing to provide treatment at discounted rates”, NRHM district co-ordinator Dr M.Beena said.
For availing of the facility, parents should give their consent or provide written statements. “Follow-up treatment will be needed for those children who have ENT problems or heart ailments.
In such cases, a Junior Public Health Nurse, or a particular teacher or one of the parents will have to take the student to a specialist hospital,” she said.
The treatment will be free and even the transportation charges for the periodic hospital visits will be met from the scheme.
“If the doctors prescribe a costly medicine, each of the students will be given `1,000. Similarly, for those requiring surgeries, we’ll arrange it at short notice through our network,” the official said.
This time over, a comprehensive package will be provided and the authorities have tied up with hospitals to give treatment for mental health, dental and eye ailments.
“We’ve tied up with the Co-operative Medical College, Amrita Dental College and Lions Club International,” Dr Beena said.
