Nurses booked for suicide threat
The three nurses, who threatened to jump down from Kothamangalam Mar Baselios Hospital, have been booked for issuing suicide threat, several others for abetment and 500 others for attacking the media and cops.
The accused list includes leaders of the Indian Nurses Association and the local political parties. The police apprehended nine people in connection with the case.
The three nurses, Priya, Vidyarani and Anu V.S., who had threatened to jump off the terrace of the hospital, have been booked on charge of suicide threat. Nine persons, including K.A. Joy, Boban, Manoj Gopi, T.B. Mini, Muhammad Shihab and Susan Leby have been booked for abetment to suicide.
The arrest came a day after the protracted nurses stir, which had reached a flashpoint with the suicide threat and people's rally, was settled at discussions with Labour Minister at Aluva on Sunday.
The offence list also includes obstructing the Independence Day rally organised by Kothamangalam municipality, destruction of public property, destroying State labour officer's vehicle and blocking the National Highway.
According to source, there has also been an intelligence report that activists of political parties had carried out extremist activities on the pretext of the nurses’ strike. Many suspects have gone underground on being told about cases being framed against them.
The arrested were identified as Jose, 61, of Thalakode, Assainar, 37, of Kottappadi, Shivadas, 45, of Unnukal, Mani, 36, of Ayirurpadam, Sinoop, 28, Manoj, 30, and Raju Peter, 33, of Unnukal, Raghu, 36, of Ayirurpadam and Jose, 36, of Kothamangalam. The arrested were all members of CPI, BJP and Youth League.
