Oommen Chandy hits the road for votes
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy sought votes in Piravom for the continuation of his nine-month-old government as the campaigning for the crucial March 17 bypoll reached its crescendo on Wednesday.
Chandy, travelling by an open jeep along with DCC president V.J. Paulose met thousands of people during his 12-hour journey across the constituency and highlighted the achievements of his government including the implementation of `1/kg rice scheme, the credit of which he gave to former food minister the late T.M. Jacob.
“Please remember, this is not only a vote for Anoop Jacob (UDF candidate and T.M. Jacob’s son) but for the continuation of my government,” he told the voters.
“It is true that my government is surviving on a thin majority in the assembly. But can anyone say that the government did not deliver because of this,” he asked the voters while reminding them about the launch of development projects such as the SmartCity and Metro.
Chandy also lashed out at Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan for claiming that defence minister A.K. Antony did not do anything for the state. “He should ask the people in his own constituency (Malampuzha) where Antony brought a unit of the BHEL. In fact, Antony had shown the magnanimity to allow Achuthanandan inaugurate the unit.”
