Padma’s screen 2 may close down
One of the premier theatres in the city, Padma, may have to close down one of its screens as the corporation has identified Screen 2 of the theatre is functioning without a licence.
According to the civic authorities, Screen 2 has been set up in violation of the specifications of the occupancy certificate.
The town planning officer has submitted a report citing that Screen 2 was located in a place that was marked as a launch area.
“It is a clear violation of the norms as the theatre has only a single licence, but two screens are functioning.
The second screen is functioning in the area that was marked as launch in the occupancy certificate,” said a top functiona-ry of the town planning standing committee.
The theatre owners have made some other modifications in the design too, but these changes have been approved by the civic body. Nearly half of the seats have been removed and the area was converted to a parking lot.
A.S. Guna Shenoy, owner of the theatre, had filed an appeal against the corporation’s decision to close down Screen 2. But in April, the finance standing committee recommended the closure.
The civic body will assign its deputy secretary to take immediate steps to serve notice for closing down the theatre.
