Paravoor victim’s study plans hit

Paravoor sex scandal victim's desire to pursue higher studies has hit a road block following the inordinate delay in commencing the trial of the case.

It seems at least one year will be needed to finish the trial of the case.

The special court constituted to try the 100 odd accused in the case has posted the first case for trial in May first week.

The police had so far filed 40 charge sheets before the court.

“We have taken all measures to expedite the trail, it is up to the court now to commence the trial,” said Thrikakkara ACP Mr. Biju Alexander who is investigating the case.

The Kerala High Court in November last year had asked the special investigation team (SIT) to release the victim immediately after recording the evidence.

The court had issued the directive to enable the victim to continue her studies.

When asked about the court’s observation, Mr Biju Alexander pointed out that it would take at least one year for the trial to complete considering the long list of accused.

“But it is up to the court to take a decision on her studies. If the court agrees to her request, she may be allowed to join a course of her choice.”

The victim is currently housed in a rescue home.

The high court had earlier directed to complete the investigation and trial of the sensational case by May 31, 2012.

A division bench comprising Justices C.N. Ramachandran Nair and P.S. Gopinathan had passed the order on a PIL by Adv T.B. Mini.
