Pillion-rider slits throat of lover on road in Kochi
A 38-year-old beautician was murdered by her lover, who rode pillion and slit her throat using a table knife, leaving her in a pool of blood near the IGNOU campus here on Thursday.
The incident took place in full view of pedestrians, shoppers and vehicle-riders at around 6.30 pm. The man, Reneesh (34) of Kasargod, surrendered at a police station two hours later. He is believed to have co-habited with the victim, Sreelatha, 38, for the past eight years.
She is reported to have worked as a beautician for the Mollywood in the past few years. Police said Sreelatha was riding a Kinetic Honda with Reneesh in the pillion.
The vehicle stopped near IGNOU campus, and the two were engaged in a brawl. Reneesh then took out a knife from his pocket and slit Sreelatha’s throat. The incident occurred near Sreelatha’s residence, said the CI, North police station, C Rajan. “Soon after, he fled the scene in the scooter in which they arrived. It all happened within seconds.” Sreelatha was rushed to a hospital, but she died en route.
Police recovered the helmet used by the victim and the knife used by the accused, from the spot.
Reneesh, police said, doubted the fidelity of Sreelatha which ended in the murder. “They were living separately for the last couple of months. “She was staying at her residence on the Kaloor-Kadavanthra road, and Reneesh in a lodge at Kannadikkadu.
A case has been registered and investigations are on.
