Police books CBI for cop torture
Kerala police on Monday filed a case against three CBI sleuths who allegedly resorted to âthird degreeâ methods while questioning suspended crime branch DySP N.A. Rasheed in the V.B. Unnithan murder-attempt case.
The non-bailable charges have been filed against SP K. Krishnakumar and ASP Jayakumar of the CBIâs Kochi unit. The third accused official could not be identified.
A complaint had been filed by Rasheedâs elder brother before Ernakulam north police station.
Rasheed, also state president of Kerala police service officersâ association, was arrested by the CBI on April 16.
He alleged in the court that CBI officer Jayakumar stabbed Rasheed on his back and twisted his arms.
He had also âinfluencedâ the doctor at Ernakulam general hospital not to record the shoe marks on his back, the brother alleged.
Journalist Unnithan was assaulted in Kollam last year by a gang of men who came on bikes. He was rushed to a hospital and was subjected to an emergency surgery.
