Police nabs fake food inspector
The Kochi city police on Saturday arrested a fake food inspector, a native of Andhra Pradesh, from Vyttila, for travelling in a car with beacon light and an official nameplate.
A red board with the words ‘Task Force – FPI – Government of India’ was attached below the number plate.
The car also had the Tricolour board on it.
The arrested was identified as Dasharath Ram Reddy, 46. His grey Innova car (AP-09-BR-5344) with a red beacon light was also taken into custody.
However, police could not nab the two men who were said to be drivers of the car.
Police said the Andhrite had been staying in the state pretending to be a food inspector for the last one month.
It is learnt that Reddy has taken money from several restaurant owners in Kottayam.
Police had received a tip-off that Reddy was staying in a bar hotel near Vyttila for the past one week.
A squad led by South sub inspector T. Biju raided the hotel in the morning and took him into custody.
“He had cheated several people in Kottayam.
He arrived in Kochi last week to continue his fraudulent operations. He surrendered easily, as he was in his room when we raided the hotel,” the SI said.
The accused will be handed over to Kottayam police on Sunday.
He is expected to be presented before the Kottayam chief judicial magistrate on Monday.
