Repaired Gulf Air plane to fly back
The Gulf Air flight that had nosedived at the Kochi airport more than seven months ago, is all set to fly back to Bahrain by the middle of next month.
The repair works of the aircraft which are progressing at the upcoming MRO facility at the Kochi airport, is almost complete.
“Ninety-five per cent of the repair works of the A 320 type aircraft has been completed. Originally, the test ride was scheduled for Wednesday but we have postponed it by two days. The Airbus and the airline engineers will complete the remaining technical work in a short time,” an airline official said.
The airline officials are now aiming to fly back “within three weeks” during which time they hope to get the certificate of airworthiness from the director general of civil aviation and also from the customs department.
The airline had earlier completed installation of CFM jet engines after overhauling them at the GE aviation unit in the US and the engine cowlings were refurbished from the Airbus hangar in Dubai.
The flight GF 270, which was carrying 137 passengers and eight members of the crew, skidded off the runway on August 29, last while landing and nosedived into the slushy area nearby.
