Search on for 5VCs, 4 PVCs
With several VC and PVC posts falling vacant soon and those at MG University already vacant, hectic lobbying is on for placements in these prestigious slots.
Senior academicians with either political linkages or support from castiest outfits are in the forefront for the lobbying.
The posts falling vacant in December are that of Kalady Sanskrit and Kera-la University VCs. The term of the VCs of National University of Advanced Legal Studies and Kannur Un-iversity end in the beginning of next year, while Cusat PVC, Kannur Uni-versity PVC and Kerala University PVC are set to bow out in April/May.
The PVC post of Kalady Sanskrit University, which fell vacant recently, was already filled. The posting of Calicut University VC, which took place after the UDF came to power, is cre-dited to the account of the Muslim League. Sources say the League is keen on add-ing one more post to its kitty from among the five VC posts that are up for grabs.
Former registrar of Aligarh Muslim University Abdul Jaleel is learnt to be trying for the Kalady VC post. For the MGU VC post, the names of Kerala University political science professor Dr G. Gopakumar and Irinjalakkuda Christ College professor and Mullapperiyar expert Dr A.V. George are in the reckoning.
Dr Jancy James who is currently serving as VC of Central University-Kerala at Kasargod is reportedly lobbying for the Kerala University VC post. Dr M.T. Sulekha, wife of Speaker G. Karthikeyan, is also a strong contender for the KU VC post.
