Show-cause notice to 82 bus owners

The regional transport office has issued show- cause notice to 82 private bus owners in the district who have been skipping night services in several parts of the district, especially in the city.

The notices were sent out after complaints from passengers, RTO officials said. The RTO has asked the bus owners to submit their explanations within a week, failing which, action would be taken.

In case the replies are not found satisfactory, the matter will be taken up at the next meeting of the regional transport authority and orders will be issued to cancel the permits of these vehicles.

The issue will be taken up at the next RTA (Regional Transport Authority) meeting. Most of the complaints were from Trippunithara, Vennala, Arkakadavu, Vyttila and Chittur areas. Irregular services after dusk, are quite common in these areas.

“We have been getting several complaints from passengers and associations against the irregular services of private buses and we will take strict action against the bus owners,” said RTO, T.J. Thomas. A mobile enforcement squad will function in these areas during night.

The motor vehicles department had on May 4, suspended the permits of some of the buses plying along the Vennala route, for 20 days, after receiving complaints from residents.
