Shyamaprasad floored by ‘torrential’ response of Arike
While piracy cases loom and several people are being booked for uploading and watching Malayalam movies online, director Shyamaprasad says he is happy his movies are being watched on YouTube and Torrent websites.
The director admits it is unethical to support an unauthorized DVD rip posted on YouTube, but says he is overwhelmed by the online viewership for his movies. He had earlier updated his status on Facebook on how happy he was about the good response he received for his Arike on YouTube, though the flick was not a box office hit.
“I must confess the overwhelming feeling I get when I see that the upload of Arike has had over 2 lakh hits in about ten days' time. And the comments are awesome,” he said in his status. And the director also gave thumbs-up to all to check out the upload and enjoy the movie.
The director said that the success in the cyber world also explained the flaws in the film distribution system. “The same movie which didn’t do well in theatres is literally a hit in the cyber world. This shows the issue has to be addressed and it needs a creative solution,” he said. Shyamaprasad’s FB status was also largely appreciated by his subscribers and fans.
