Six SBI officers, 2 from state, drown
Two from the state were among six persons killed after a boat, carrying 14 trainee officers of SBI, capsized in the Narmada River at Maheshwar in Indore on Sunday.
The Keralites were Prem Kiran (26) of North Paravoor in Ernakulam and Saurabh Mohan (25) of Ranni in Path-anamthitta.
The incident occurred at around 7.15 pm, police said, adding the bodies were fished out on
Monday morning.
The rest of the employees were rescued by divers and boatmen. Bijoy Thanakappan of Kollam was among the rescued. Four survivors, in serious condition, were hospitalised in Maheshwar.
All of them had been to Indoor for a training programme at the bank’s Regional Training Centre. According to the Indoor police, 57 of the 120 employees attending the training went for a picnic on Sunday.
The rest of the dead were identified as Vijay Shyam (25, from New Delhi), Javed (21), Jitendra Singh (28) and Vishal (33) from Uttar Pradesh).
Sourav was a probationary officer at the SBI Kesavadasapuram branch and Prem Kiran working at Kannur SBI. The bodies will be accompanied by Sourav’s aunt, employed at Indore.
