Sreedharan inspects Kochi Mero site
Metro Man E. Sreedharan on Thursday, conducted field inspections on the Aluva-Kaloor stretch ahead of the commencement of the main work of the Kochi Metro project while district collector Sheikh Pareeth inspected the disputed sites on the proposed Vytilla-Petta road widening section.
“The inspection in the morning was ahead of the commencement of the main works. He went through the sketches and suggested minor changes. Sreedharan also fixed an internal target to complete the first stretch of viaduct construction”, a DMRC official said.
In the evening, the district collector went to the disputed sites on the Vytilla-Petta stretch. “The collector and officials from various department walked down the over two-km stretch from Vytilla to Champakara bridge. He told representatives of the protesting local people that a complete report would be prepared by all the departments concerned and a final discussion would be held with them”, an official said.
While the PWD, entrusted with the road-widening work, had suggested that the road be widened by 30 metres, later decided to go for 26 metres, thus enabling less land to be acquired. The disputed sites are KSEB sub-station, Ranjini Eye-Clinic, Mosque and St George UP School.
