Strip VS of Oppn leader’s post: Sindhu Joy
Former SFI president Sindhu Joy on Tuesday demanded that the CPM strip V.S. Achuthanandan of the opposition leader’s post, considering his repeated bad-mouthing of women.
Addressing a crowded election meeting of UDF candidate Anoop Jacob in Mulanthuruthy, Sindhu said that Achuthanandan was attacking women to divert attention from the allegations of corruption he and his son Arun Kumar were facing.
Sindhu, who joined the Congress last year after giving up her association with the CPM, attributed her absence from active politics to her travelling across India in connection with her studies.
Achuthanandan once claimed that Sindhu was “used like an ‘abhisarika’ by the Congress before ditching her.”
Sindhu said that Achuthanandan should have checked the facts before making such comments.
“According to news reports he later clarified that he meant I was thrown away like a curry leaf (kariveppila). I was humiliated by his earlier comment. Is a casual withdrawal of the remark enough? He should think about this.”
“I know Achuthanandan has humiliated women in the past as well by such disparaging remarks. He did not even care that he and I worked together in a party and this has saddened me the most,” Sindhu said.
She said it was time that the CPM reined Achuthanandan in for the sake of women in Kerala.
Sindhu spoke at several other meetings for Anoop as well, and according to Congress sources she will continue to campaign for the UDF candidate in the coming days.
