Students guide cycling tours
The District Tourism Prom-otion Council is set to orga-nise day-long guided mon-soon cycle tours — conne-cting tourism spots in Kochi — for young tourists with the support of tourismstudents from Al-Ameen College, Edathala, from July end to August 31.
As per the plan, the tour aimed to help tourists en-joy the rain will start from DTPC’s office premises around 9 am. “The idea is to make this an annual feature during the monsoon,” said DTPC secretary T.N. Jayashankar.
The tour will begin with a boat ride for tourists from the boat jetty at Marine Drive to Customs Jetty and Fort Kochi. Cyclists will get down at Fort Kochi to have a guided visit of all the heritage spots in Mattancherry and Fort Kochi.
From there, they will be guided to Kumbalangi whe-re the riders will have lunch and from there to Anjilithara, Kannamali and Chellanam.
After enj-oying an evening at the beach, tourists will retu-rn to Fort Kochi to take a ride in a junkar to reach Vypeen.
From there, they will cycle their way via Our Lady of Hope Chur-ch, Vallarpadam and Gos-hree Bridge to Marine Drive.
According to Jayashan-kar, students of Al-Ameen College will work as guides for tourists. “We have seen many tourists, especially those from abroad, preferring cycling to other modes of transport and this has motivated us. The programme will also encourage local tourists, especially youngsters, to take to cycling.”
