Suspended SI still roams free
The Crime Branch team probing the sex racket case in which a girl from Kazhakuttam was clandestinely taken to Dubai, is groping in the dark.
It is yet to arrest sub-inspector Raju Mathew who was earlier suspended from service.
The cops have not so far quizzed Raju Mathew as it is alleged that there have been top level interventions, which also hold back the crime branch from arresting him.
The reason cited by CB sleuths for not arresting Raju Mathew is that there is no evidence against him.
Though earlier, there were plans to arrest him, things suddenly took a different turn, thus keeping the sub-inspector away from the police radar, sources said.
Raju Mathew was suspended on the charge that he had helped the sex racket get away through the airport.
“It is tough to prove his involvement in the case. The charge against him is for an emigration lapse. That does not mean he is involved in the case,” a CB source said.
Initial investigations hinted that the gang that smuggled the woman out had presented her to
almost 150 customers in the Gulf, especially Dubai and Sharjah.
The kingpin of the racket, a woman from Thrissur , is absconding. It’s believed that she
got help from certain emigration officers at the Nedumbassery airport which facilitated her work.
Fifteen people have been identified in connection with the case.
The cops are also set to spread their investigation abroad. As per the case, the woman from Kazhakkuttam near Thiruvananthapuram exited on a fake passport and got trapped in the
sex racket in the Gulf. She then returned to Mumbai where her forged passport was seized.
