Swindler’s software to run prisons better
Eight months back, Bhoopathy Manoharan, 29, a techie from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, didn’t know a software he just developed would revolutionise the administration of prisons of another state.

Bhoopathy was and jailed in January this year for the multi-level marketing scam of Tycoon, a multi-level marketing company floated by him and two friends.
Bhoopathy said the officials were maintaining all the documents manually and struggling to source details of an inmate. “I have digitalized the data and developed a programme which will help access all the personal details of jail inmates instantly,” he said.
“I thought my experience as a software developer should be useful for the prison where I have been living for the last eight months,” he said.
Jail welfare officer O.J. Thomas said that two years ago, the jail authorities contacted a software company through the prisons headquarters to develop such software, but dropped the idea as the project cost was as high as Rs.3 lakh. “Bhoopathy has been assisting us in computer-related jobs during the past few months, he being a computer expert.
