Syllabus all ready for ‘security citizens’
The first batch of the Citizen for Security programme will undergo a two-day training class at the conference hall of the Ernakulam Traffic West police station on June 23 and 24.
Around 100 volunteers along with police personnel from every station in the city, will be trained in chemical hazard management, detection of explosives, emergency preparedness, first aid and trauma care.
Police have already prepared a syllabus for the programme in which the members will be taught to fight fire, counter a disaster and take risks in emergencies.
Training will be given under the guidance of Central Zone Inspector General K Padmakumar. Top officials from different companies in the city will lead the training classes, according to sources.
“We are focusing on equipping people in particular areas with disaster management skills,” said Assistant Commissioner of Traffic West, Muhammed Rafique, who is coordinating the programme.
“Teams will be formed, based on the areas of residence. If an emergency occurs in a particular area, Citizens for Security in that place will be able to bring the situation under control without waiting for police and the fire officials to arrive at the scene. Effective public participation is the most important part of disaster management,” he said.
Safety officials from FACT) leading doctors and top police officials in the state forensic department will lead the classes for chemical hazard management, first aid, trauma care and detection of explosives.
