Taliban-model execution in Kannur: Chennithala
The state Congress chief, Mr Ramesh Chennithala, on Thursday asked the state government to bring to justice the CPI (M) leaders and workers who were behind the “Taliban-model” execution of a Muslim Students Federation youth at Keezhara in Kannur recently.
Referring to the report that CPI(M) workers had lynched the youth, Mr Abdul Shukkoor, at a paddy field after charging him with attacking the vehicle of party’s Kannur district secretary, Mr P. Jayarajan, MLA, Mr Chennithala said in Piravom that the incident shocked Kerala.
“According to reports, Mr Shukkoor was executed after a public trial, attended by party workers. This is a first in the State. The government should immediately arrest all those involved in the heinous crime and a message should go to all that this is Kerala, not Afghanistan,” he said.
“This reminds one of the murder of Jayakrishnan (a teacher who was killed in front of his students in a classroom) in Kannur,” he added. Mr Chennithala said the CPI (M) was “commandeered” by the Kannur lobby and the election campaign for the party in Piravom was headed by ‘Jayarajans’ from that district.
“The Opposition Leader, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, is being increasingly isolated in the party. His comment that the defence minister, Mr A.K. Antony, had not done anything for Kerala, comes out of this isolation and frustration.”
Mr Chennithala said, “All those who want the continuation of the Oommen Chandy government would vote for UDF in Piravom.”
