Toll to be collected at Edapally RoB from April
Commuters using the Edapally RoB will have to pay toll from April 1.
The NH wing of the public works department (PWD) has decided to cha-rge a user fee at the rec-ently opened bridge based on the 2008 notification rate.
Accordingly, Rs 15 will be collected for a single journey by car, Rs 25 for a light commercial vehicle, Rs 50 for a bus or lorry and Rs 80 for heavier vehicles, a PWD official said.
“It has currently been decided to charge similar to the rates of Aroor toll. We have submitted a proposal to the urban transport department to hike the rates in accordance with the cost of the project,” the official said.
The Edapally RoB, was constructed at a cost of Rs 36 crore and was open to the public on February 4.
Initially the PWD dep-artment will collect the toll and a temporary boo-th will be constructed on the Kunnumpuram side.
Commuters proceeding towards Guruvayur side using the NH 17 already have to pay toll at the Varapuzha Bridge. This means, light motor vehicles will have to dole out over Rs 30 to use the stretch.
“They should charge less given the fact that vehicles have to remit toll within a five-km distance. Further the lighting has not been completed on both sides of the bridge. Similarly they should give concessions to those residing in the vicinity,” said Shyam Lal, a resident of Edapally.
