‘Top cops tried to save DYSP Rasheed’
Top police officers involved in the investigations into the attempt on the life of journalist Unnithan tried to derail the CBI probe by threatening the accused, said ‘container’ Santhosh when he deposed before the CBI.
Highly placed CBI sources confirmed that the depositions made by ‘container’ Santhosh, who turned approver in the case, hinted at the involvement of DIG S. Sreejith and Kollam SP Sam Christy Daniel.
The duo threatened Santhosh and asked him not to divulge the details of the role played by N. Abdul Rasheed in the case, the sources said.
Container Santhosh also deposed that DIG Sreejith had threatened that he would falsely implicate him in terrorist cases and in two murder cases registered in Bangalore and Coimbatore.
“You are trapped, you cannot escape from the case, so it is better to obey our orders,” was how top police officers threatened him, Container Santhosh deposed.
Police pressurised me to give statements, Santhosh alleged.
During the interrogation, DySP Abdul Rasheed called Sam Christy Daniel and he handed over the phone to Santhosh.
“Aniya (brother) don’t name me in the case. We will discuss about it when we meet personally,” Rasheed asked Santhosh.
