Track mobile towers: Mayor
City corporation authorities are planning to intensify the drive against unauthorised mobile towers.
Mayor Tony Chammany has asked revenue department officials to take immediate measures to track all unassessed illegal mobile towers in the city.
Deccan Chronicle recently published a report on more than 800 unassessed mobile towers in the city and the corporation’s huge revenue loss.
According to officials, the Mayor served a notice to the revenue department with a copy of the DC report. A new file has been opened for follow-up action.
“The Mayor and Deputy Mayor have taken note of the DC report and directed the officials concerned to initiate steps to track illegal mobile towers in the city,” said a top official.
He added that the department had already issued notices to mobile companies asking them to comply with tax norms. “We are identifying unauthorised towers in the city.
Earlier, special revenue squads formed to do so had found some unassessed towers,” he added. According to him, the new self assessment tax system will help catch tax defaulters.
“With the new self assessment tax system in place, no structure, including mobile towers, will be exempted,” he said.
