Traffic curbs in city for two days
Kochi city will have several traffic regulations on Wednesday and Thursday in connection with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to inaugurate the Emerging Kerala meet and lay the foundation stone for the Kochi Metro Rail project.
Traffic will be banned from Thoppumpady BOT Bridge towards the East till Venduruthy Vikrant Bridge, towards South till Kundannoor Junction via NH 47-A Alexander Parambithara Bridge and towards Willingdon Island via Vathuruthy-Bristo Road on Wednesday. The regulation will be applicable from 10.45 am to 1 pm, 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm and 5.15 pm to 6 pm.
Traffic from Willingdon Island to DCC Junction via Vathuruthy, Venduruthy Vikrant Bridge and MG Road will be banned from 9.15 am to 12.15 pm on Wednesday.
Old Thevara Road, Foreshore Road, Warriom Road, Divan’s Road, Durbar Hall Road, Park Avenue Road and Shanmugham Road will also be closed during this time.
Vehicles that go from West Kochi to the city will have to take the Edakochi-Aroor-Kumbalam-Vytttila route or use the Fort Kochi junkar service and reach the Goshree Bridges and Container Road during the time of traffic regulations on Tuesday.
City service buses from West Kochi will have to take the Thevara Ferry Junction-Kundannoor-Vyttila route.
KSRTC buses and private buses from Kaloor and Aluva should take South from Pharmacy Junction and follow DCC Junction-Chittoor Road-South RoB-Panampilli Nagar Road-Atlantis Junction route.
Parking is also banned in all these roads from 5 am on Wednesday to 1 pm on Thursday.
Vehicles parked on these roads would be seized, the police said.
The cops would also block all the pocket roads that are connected to the major roads, where traffic regulations are applicable. Commuters have been asked to cooperate with the police and avoid using city roads.
