UK may look at teaching English

Education, ports, infrastructure and healthcare- these are areas UK and Kerala can work on. The mood created by Emerging Kerala can kick-start partnerships in these areas, says the British High Commissioner, Sir James Bevan.

Realising this potential of Kerala, UK had come with a very large delegation and there would be serious discussions with potential investors, Bevan said on the sidelines of the meet here on Wednesday.
There could be initiatives with schools for improving English language skills.

A good number of students were in the UK as part of higher studies and this surely could make the UK look at tie-ups with educational institutes and universities, said deputy high commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis.

The ports were another sector British industry leaders were keen on. The presence of companies that were already into this business could look at port and shipyard dev-elopment and in the next two days, captains of ind-ustry would be meeting their counterparts here.

Infrastructure, including roads, offered chances in the State. For a State looking at energy options, there were a number of players from UK already here, providing technology for windmills in Tamil Nadu, which could be extended to Kerala, said Nithavrianakis.
