Varapuzha rape accused walks free

Even as Chief Minister Oommen Chandy repeatedly claimed that it was the state government’s policy to take stringent action against the accused in sex scandal cases, an accused in the Varapuzha sex scandal walked away free due to the negligence of the prosecution.

When the anticipatory bail application of Bimal Roy of Thiruvananthapuram, 61st accused in the Varappuzha case came up before the Kerala High Court, the government pleader failed to oppose the plea and the accused managed to get a favourable order.

The court on Friday while considering a criminal miscellaneous plea directed the investigating officer of the Varapuzha case to release the accused on bail if he is arrested.

According to police, Bimal Roy had been absconding in the case and his arrest was needed for identification by the 16-year-old victim.

It is learnt from reliable sources that the top cops have interfered and sought an explanation
from the investigating officer.

According to Director General of Prosecution’s office as the case came up before the bench during the vacation hearing, the pleaders did not turn up due “to a miscommunication.”

The Director General of Prosecution office added that they will take appropriate action if the investigating officer moves court.
