Will not be VC under UDF mercy, says Rajan Gurukkal
The Mahatma Gandhi University vice-chancellor, Dr Rajan Gurukkal, who is facing protests and allegations from the UDF members of the syndicate and senate, made it clear on Saturday, that he will not remain in the post of VC at the mercy of the ruling party.
“I make it clear that I will demit office if I am not able to function in the post according to the statutes and act and the ordinances governing the university. I will not remain in the post of VC at the mercy of the ruling party.
But, I cannot also be forced out of the post by raising false allegations and through pressure tactics,” he told DC over the phone after the senate meeting that witnessed uproarious scenes over allegations against the VC, on Saturday.
He said he is making his stand clear as there are moves to initiate a vigilance inquiry against him by cooking up complaints and taking them up with the state and the governor. He said he will soon meet the governor to apprise him of the situation.
Saturday’s senate meeting witnessed uproarious scenes after the question hour was held from 10 am to 11 am.
Members belonging to the UDF came up with allegations of financial irregularities by the VC in the recent conduct of INFOBA-2012, the international book exhibition.
According to sources, the VC, however, denied permission to move an adjournment motion in this regard, which led to further uproar. The appointment controversy involving him was also raised by some of the senate members.
