22-year-old kills self, husband held
Harassed by her brother-in-law for sexual favours, a 22 year old housewife, who had been married for the past one year, immolated herself.
Her husband has been arrested, while her brother-in-law, who is believed to be the prime accused, is absconding.
Pakiza Begum had been married to Reza-ul Rehman of Uluberia for the past 13 months. However, when Rezaul’s sister-in-law found that her husband Azizul,42, Rezaul’s elder brother was taking unnecessary interest in Pakiza, she blew the whistle and asked Rezaul to go away with his bride.
The couple thereafter shifted base and rented a house at 23, Meher Ali Mandal street in Ekbalpore area. However, their woes did not end even then as Azizul kept on frequenting their house for no apparent reason.
On Tuesday evening, when Rezaul, a carpenter by profession, came back from work, he found Pakiza is a charred condition. On being taken to a local hospital, she was declared brought dead.
Soonafter her death, Pakiza’s father Adam Hussain Mandal lodged a complaint with the Ekbalpore police station alleging that Azizul had tried to exploit her physically while Rezaul did nothing to stop him. Based on the complaint, Rezaul has been arrested while Azizul is absconding.
