Abduction drama turns out to be STF Op
In what can be said as a scene straight from a Bollywood pot-boiler, a special task force (STF) team of the Kolkata police, posing as “kidnappers”, bundled a Maoist suspect into a car and whisked him away from the crowded College Street area as part of their anti-naxal operation across the city on Wednesday.
Confirming of the operation to this newspaper late on Wednesday evening, joint commissioner of police (STF) Rajeev Mishra said: “A crackdown against the Maoists is underway across the city. The youth has been detained for questioning as part of it.” He, however, did not disclose his identity.
Since morning, the incident was being flashed on the local television channels.
