Anti-Didi remarks: Anisur apologises in WB Assembly
CPI(M) MLA Anisur Rahaman on Tuesday apologised unconditionally on the floor of the House after Trinamul Congress deputy leader Partha Chatterjee brought a privilege notice against him for his indecent remarks against chief minister Mamata Banerjee at a rally in Raigunj in North Dinajpur in 2012.
Demanding strong punishment, Mr Chatterjee moved the privilege notice to Speaker Biman Banerjee after the question and answer session. “The notice was brought under the rule 226 of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly proceeding against Mr Rahaman’s derogatory comments on not only the chief minister but all the women on December 27. The Speaker approved it,” he said.
When Mr Chatterjee raised the notice in the House, a verbal duel broke out between the ruling and Opposition MLAs. Claiming of having no intention to insult the chief minister, Mr Rahaman argued that he had apologised on December 28. He also reasoned that he had apologised to Ms Banerjee through a press conference and even to the Speaker personally for his remarks.
Dissatisfied, the Speaker reminded him that his apology outside the House would not be accepted inside. He also said that his worlds were not reflecting in his mood.
Mr Chatterjee added, “The Trinamul MLAs then demanded an unconditional apology from Mr Rahaman which he made.” Later Mr Rahaman said, “I apologised unconditionally because I realise that I should not have used the words and tone.”
