Armed men to secure poll booths
In a bid to prevent the incidents of political clashes on the day of voting in the 81 municipalities, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on May 30, the state police administration will send senior officials to the areas well in advance to supervise things.
State director general of police Bhupinder Singh said, “Though we have no specific intelligence inputs about any possible incidents of bloodshed on the election day but still as a precautionary measure, we have decided to send the supervisory officers to the areas where the civic elections would be held, about a week in advance.”
The state police administration has decided to make elaborate security arrangements for the elections. Every booth will be guarded by armed forces.
“As far as security is concerned, we are giving more stress on North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts and most of the Central forces will be deployed over there,” Mr Singh added.
The state government has been assured of 41 companies of forces from outside the state including the forces from the Central government as well as from other states for the election day.
