Bike race on flyover turns fatal for Class 12 boy
A high school student died after lying unattended for over half-an-hour on the road following an accident on AJC Bose Road flyover on Tuesday. The victim, Supriyo Roy was a student of Class 12 of St Thomas School in Kidderpore. The 18-year-old was the pillion rider of a motorbike (Rugby Rider 17) which his friend and classmate Atif Rehman, 17, of Park Circus was riding. Atif was also critically injured in the mishap.
Returning from school after their examination, the duo was racing with their friends on another motorbike. Travelling at an extremely high speed over the bridge from Red Road to Park Circus, Atif’s motorbike got disbalanced and hit the wall of the flyover at around 12 pm, said a senior officer of the Shakespeare Sarani police station. The two friends sprang off the vehicle and fell on the road. Their two other friends on another motorcycle fled from the spot.
“For the next 40 minutes, the student lay fatally injured on the road as I tried to stop several vehicles for help. I even dialled 100 of the Kolkata police but nobody picked up the call,” alleged Anish Halder, a passerby. He added, “Finally, I managed to stop an ambulance after parking my bike and rushed them to the hospital.”
But Surpiyo, a resident of Ramgarh in Jadavpur, was declared brought dead at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, Atif was battling for his life till reports last came in.
