CM plans to bring more farmers under Kisan card scheme
The state government will launch a special drive to bring more and more farmers under the Kisan Credit Card scheme. The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting at the Writers’ Building chaired by chief minister Mamata Banerjee. “The Kisan Card is a very useful scheme for the farmers which provides them cover from natural calamities. However, we have found that over 50 per cent farmers have not been brought under its umbrella. Our government will launch a special drive to bring more farmers under this scheme,” she said after the meeting.
The flood-like situation prevailing in the state dominated the meeting. So far 29 people have perished in heavy rains. Ms Banerjee said that the state government would be paying `2 lakh to the next of kin of every victim. “The government will pay `10,000 to those whose houses has been destroyed and `2,000 to those whose houses have been partially damaged,” she added. The state government would also intensify its efforts to provide more jobs to SCs and STs.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also held a meeting with the puja organisers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Ministers and senior officials of various departments including PWD, urban development, CESC, power, disaster management, KMC, fire services, PCB and large number of senior police officers were also present. Following her initiative, the CESC agreed to give a 10 per cent relief in power surcharge to the puja committees. “The KMDA has also agreed to charge 10 per cent less rent for its land,” Ms Banerjee announced amidst thunderous applause.
