Drunk female TMC leader ‘abuses’ cops

A female Trinamul Congress local leader from central Kolkata stormed into a police station in a drunken state on Thursday night and allegedly abused an on-duty police officer.

The accused, Pampa Dutta, in her late 30s, barged into the Bowbazar police station at around midnight, said a senior officer.
Sub-inspector (SI) Samir Dutta was having his dinner — bread and curry — then. Using abusive language against the cops present there, Ms Dutta used chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s name and threatened all of them, the officer added. Next she shoved Mr Dutta and poured the hot curry on him, he disclosed.
She also broke a chair during her tantrums. All the cops, right from the sentry to the officer level, were stunned at her behaviour. Later they somehow pacified her and sent her back home with a police team. On Friday, Ms Dutta, however, denied her involvement in the incident and instead alleged: “The police pulled me by my hands and hair.”
Asked why she was let go in the first place, a senior of the SI explained: “We are not allowed to arrest any woman at night in absence of female cops at the police station. We do not have that resource here. Even if she was to be arrested, a female police team had to be requisitioned from Lalbazar.”
Another officer added, “The reason of her anger and outburst was that she was asked not to visit a bar at C.R. Avenue where she had gone on a rampage in a drunken state three months ago. At that time, both the bar owner and the woman had lodged complaints against each other.”
Trouble broke out on Thursday late evening when a police team went to check crooner licence at the bar after arresting a group of bar girls for performing a dance in an event organised by the bar official illegally recently.
The Trinamul leader also arrived at the bar at around the same time and turned furious at the police when they did not allow her to go inside as there was a ban on her. A case was started against her.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
