Female CPM activist shot dead in palasey
A CPI(M) woman activist, Selina Bibi(25), was shot dead on Saturday early morning at Palasey village in Ranitala police station area in Murshidabad. The CPI(M) leaders alleged that the deceased and her family had recently switched loyalty to their party and this had infuriated the Congress.
Armed miscreants attacked Raisuddin Seikh’s residence with bombs and tried to loot the valuables. His married daughter, Selina, tried to resist the gang. One gang member shot her at point blank range. She was taken to Lalbagh hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Thereafter, Congress and CPI(M) supporters clashed with each other using bombs and guns. Murshidabad SP Humaiyun Kabir said that trouble had been brewing since the past five days ago at the Palasey village between rival groups headed by Miraj Sheikh and Selina. A police team defused the tension in the area and arrested one person. CPI(M) claimed that Selina was killed because her father Raisuddin had left the Congress.
