HC stays hit-and-run proceedings
The Bombay high court on Monday stayed proceedings against Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the Bandra magistrate’s court after a complaint seeking contempt action against him for posting the details of his 2002 hit-and-run run case on his website.
Justice M.L. Tahilyani stayed the notice and the proceedings against Khan until further orders. The actor’s lawyer Ravi Kadam argued that the hit-and-run case involving the actor had been committed to the sessions court for trial and therefore the magistrate had no jurisdiction to issue a notice to him on the contempt complaint filed against him by activist Hemant Patil. The court has also asked Mr Patil to file a reply to Khan’s petition, which prayed for quashing the proceedings in the magistrate’s court.
“Such a notice issued is highly questionable when the case has been committed to the sessions court,” observed the court. Khan pleaded that he had created www.-salmankhanfiles.com only to ensure that there was no incorrect reporting by the media.

Ftii students protest against abvp
Pune: Students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) took out a march on Monday to protest against the alleged assault on some of them by the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). ABVP activists had barged in during a performance staged by artistes of Kabir Kala Manch (KKM), organised by the FTII students at the National Film Archives of India in Pune last week. According to a spokesman of FTII students, the ABVP activists resorted to unruly behaviour alleging that the KKM artistes had an affiliation with Naxal elements. The police said that they had registered cross complaints from both the groups and the matter was under investigation. The protesters also raised slogans condemning the murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar in the city last week and also in support of freedom of expression. An ABVP representative said its activists acted in self-defence. The police, who initially denied permission for the morcha, later allowed after taking a written undertaking assuring peaceful conduct.
