‘Industrialists have to return excess land’

The West Bengal government has started the process to take back the excess land from the industrialists. State commerce and industries minister Partha Chatterjee said that despite repeated appeals of the state government, many of the industrialists have not disclosed the amount of land, under their possession, which is unutilised or being utilised for non-industrial uses. “Only 46 industries have so far applied for the permission to hold excess land,” he said. On being asked whether the state has received any proposal from auto major Volkswagen, he replied: “I have got a sms, but have not received any written proposal.”
