JU changes selection process of professors
The Jadavpur University (JU) has raised the bar of selection of the post of a professor. Only the top 30 applicants for a vacant teaching post would be called for seminar presentation and interview in accordance with the new selection procedure for recruitment of teachers.
Applicants would be shortlisted on the basis of an Academic Performance Indicator (API) score. “The university executive committee has finalised the selection procedure for teaching posts and the university would soon advertise for recruitment. The API by the university is in accordance with that framed by the UGC,” JU registrar, Pradip Kumar Ghosh said.
Varsity sources, however, said that JU has raised the quality bar for recruitment of teachers over and above that prescribed by UGC. A source said, “The UGC has framed the selection procedure keeping in mind the universities across the country. We have adopted a process which suits us and caters to the interests of the university.”
Applicants would be screened on the basis of API and would have to score minimum API marks for qualifying to the seminar presentation and interview round. A candidate has to have a minimum score of 175 for an associate professor’s post and 125 for the post of assistant professors. However, applicants for the post of professor have been exempted from API and would be directly called for seminar presentation and interview.
