‘Kolkata literary meet to be better than Jaipur fest’

The second edition of the Kolkata Literary Meet (KLM) is going to be the highlight of 37th International Kolkata Book Fair as over 100 writers from all over the globe will take part in more than 40 sessions in the five-day literary meet.

The chief organiser of KLM, Malavika Banerjee claimed that the literary meet 2013 would be bigger and better than the Jaipur Literature Festival. “The speakers lined up for this year’s meet is better than the Jaipur Literature Festival. We are also holding sessions to celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema as well as to remember the literary works of authors who left us in 2012,” Ms Banerjee said.
Among the authors and celebrities who will play a key role in showcasing Kolkata’s literary treasure in the global landscape are Amartya Sen, Amitava Ghosh, Shashi Tharoor, Jeet Thayil, Amish Tripathi, Javed Akhtar, Sourav Ganguly, Thomas Keneally, Nabneeta Deb Sen, Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Samaresh Majumdar and others.
But the biggest draw of the meet will be the event Nayikar Bhumikay Satyajiter Naari Choritro where actress Sharmila Tagore, Aparna Sen and Madhabi Mukherjee will hold a discussion on female protagonists of Ray’s films in conversation with director Rituparno Ghosh. Another major attraction of the meet will be the unveiling of Sharmila Tagore’s book on Tiger Pataudi by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
Eminent authors Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay and Amitava Ghosh will inaugurate the KLM 2013 on January 30.
Meanwhile, Publishers and Booksellers Guild published the first edition of a tabloid on “Everyday Book Fair” on Thursday in an effort to bring out the events and news occurring in book fair in a bulletin format.
Being the theme country of this year’s book fair, deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh Abida Islam was present at the occasion and informed that nine government and 25 private publishers from Bangladesh will participate in the Bangladesh pavilion.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
