Locals overcome Maoist fear to attend tmc rally
That Mamata Banerjee is determined to fight the Maoists politically also became evident on Tuesday when the Trinamul Youth Congress organised a public rally at Belpahari which is considered the rebels’ den. Even an attempt to create an atmosphere of fear by engineering a landmine scare in Malavati jungles at Binpur failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the people who attended the rally in large numbers.
Throwing an open challenge to the Maoists, Trinamul Congress MP from Tamluk and Trinamul Youth Congress president Subhendu Adhikari said that he would keep on organising rallies in the areas dominated by the rebels. “If they have the guts then they should try to stop me. Let’s see how many bullets and landmines they have in their possession,” he added. He would lead a padyatra from Aguibani to Naghabohra area on November 12 and address a public rally at Rogra in Sankrail on November 18.
Mr Adhikari pledged to drive the Maoists out of Jangalmahal. He was echoed by Union minister of state for shipping Mukul Roy and Union minister of state for rural development Sisir Adhikari.
