Madrasa results improve
The West Bengal Board of Madrasah Educat-ion has registered a record passing percentage in the 2010 examinations. More than 75 per cent students cleared their high madrasa examination which is eight per cent more than in 2009.
In 2010, out of 35,260 students appearing in the high madrasa exam, 23,537 passed with a pass percentage of 75.62. In 2009, the pass percentage was only 67.16. In the Alim examination, out of 5,637 students, 3,634 passed with a pass percentage of 69.38 against previous year’s 64.94 per cent. In Fazil, out of 1,301, 1,031 students passed. Out of 16,156 boys, 13,004 passed with a pass percentage of 82.06 while among the 26,044 girls 17,714 passed making it 70.4 per cent.
The probable topper is Mehbub Alam with 87.45% from DBS High Madrasa in Dhuliyan. He is followed by Mohammed Abdul Asfaque 85.33 %, followed by Syed Ali Afzal 83.56% and Munshi Mohammed Raqib 83.44%. All three are from Khalatpur High Madrasa, Howrah.

Woman, 30, jumps before Metro, dies

A 30-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train at the Sovabazar-Sutanuti Metro platform on Tuesday morning. Official sources said the victim was identified as Rimpi Das, a resident of 4, Girish Avenue. Rimpa had jumped in front of the Kavi Nazrul-bound train at 7.40 am. On being taken to a local hospital, she was declared brought dead.
The Metro services between Dum Dum station and Sovabazar-Sutanuti station were suspended from 7.40 am to 8.15 am.
