Man freed in arms case held for jumping bail
The state police re-arrested one of the 10 persons who had earlier been arrested by the CBI from the Janani brick kiln at Khejuri in East Midnapore in 2007 after the Nandigram massacre. The accused, who were caught
possessing arms, had jumped bail and were absconding thereafter. Trinamul Congress MP and Union minister of state for rural development Sisir Adhikari has demanded that the one re-arrested should be interrogated by the CBI so as to find his political allegiance.
It may be recalled that Rajkumar Jana, a resident of Tuniavilla village under the jurisdiction of Potashpur police station, was one among the 10 persons who were arrested from the Janani brick-kiln in the then CPI(M) stronghold Khejuri on March 17, 2007. A huge cache of arms was recovered from their possession. The CBI had made the arrests while investigating the case of police firing in Nandigram on March 14, 2007, that had claimed 14 lives.
Later the 10 were bailed out. However, within no time, all 10 jumped bail and were absconding since then. Jana was arrested by officials of the Bhupatinagar police station on Thursday night.
