Maoists detonate mine at Salboni
Maoists exploded a landmine at Salboni symbolically cutting off connection between Lalgarh and Midnapore late on Tuesday night. However, no one was injured in the incident. Incidentally, Wednesday was the first day of the Jangalmahal bandh called by the Maoist-backed tribal body People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA).
Official sources revealed that the explosion was triggered at late on Tuesday night at Bhat More under the jurisdiction of Salboni police station. A culvert that joined the two jurisdictions, was blown off in the explosion. The Maoists had targeted the same location before they had attacked the EFR camp in Sildah. By disconnecting the road, the Maoists, during the Sildah attack, had ensured that no rescue vehicles could reach the spot soonafter the incident.
Meanwhile, apart from Wednesday’s bandh, the PCPA has called for an indefinite strike during which they will carry out road blockades. The Maoists have also called for a bandh in the Jangalmahal on May 14.
