Maoists get big blow: Kishenji aide surrenders
In a major success for West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, top woman Maoist commander Suchitra Mahato, who escaped with a bullet injury after Kishenji’s death in a November 2011 encounter, surrendered before her on Friday. Her surrender deals a severe blow to the Maoist movement.
Suchitra, 35, is the wife of slain rebel chief Sashadhar Mahato and was wanted in 16 cases. She gave herself up at the West Bengal police intelligence branch headquarters here on Friday morning. Her second husband Prabir Gorai, who she married only last month, accompanied her.
