Mitra to make budget statement in House
State finance minister Amit Mitra will on Thursday make a financial statement in the House for the last six months of the current fiscal. The next session of the Assembly will begin on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Speaker Biman Banerjee chaired a business advisory committee meeting in which members of all political parties were present. After the meeting, Mr Banerjee said that on Wednesday, the House would be adjourned after obituary references. “On August 11, the finance minister will make a budget statement,” he added.
Leader of Opposition Suryakanta Mishra later said that he wanted to know whether the government would present a full-fledged budget in the current session.
“Unfortunately, they did not give any clear answer to my questions,” he claimed. On August 12, a motion for demand for grants of all the departments will be tabled in the House. On August 13, chief minister Mamata Banerjee will conduct a workshop for the MLAs. Several bills, including the crucial Gorkha Territorial Authority Bill will be tabled in the House in this session which will last till September 14. A seven-member committee was constituted to review the security of Assembly premises, the Speaker informed.

EIH plans two hotels at Rajarhat

Aug. 9: The EIH Limited which runs Oberoi and Trident brands of hotels, is planning to set up two hotels at Rajarhat. These two properties may entail an investment of around `1,000 crore. The company is looking for 3-4 acres privately-held land over there. “We are looking for any person or company which holds land at Rajarhat for setting up the hotels,” EIH chairman P.R.S. Oberoi said in Kolkata on Tuesday.
