New CLP chief to be a Muslim
In a bid to send a positive message to the Muslims before the Assembly polls, the Congress is going to elect Abu Hena as the new Congress Legislature Party leader on January 2. He will replace Manas Bhunia, who was elected the state Congress president in July and since then had been occupying both offices.
“I cannot continue to hold two posts and so I requested Pranabda to relieve me from the CLP’s responsibilities,” Mr Bhunia said over the phone from Sabang, his Assembly constituency in West Midnapore where he addressed an impressive party rally on Friday.
According to Mr Bhunia his successor would be appointed during a meeting at the Bidhan Bhavan on January 2. “Pranabda will be present in the meeting,” he added.
Mr Hena is currently the deputy CLP leader. He is the son of an illustrious Congress leader Abdus Sattar.
