No suicide note on Kolkata boy
The police on Friday said no suicide note has been recovered and there were no apparent injury marks on the body of La Martiniere for Boys student Riju Basak, whose body was found floating in Rabindra Sarobar on Friday.
However, Riju’s father lamented that had the police been prompter in their investigation on Thursday then, hopefully, the boy could have been traced alive. “My son was every emotional, but he was focused on his goals. He wanted to sit for the civil services. He was a guitarist and poet too,” said his father, weeping. The school principal and teachers went to meet the bereaved parents at their residence.
The parents had received a call on Thursday from a person named Tarun Mali who said he had seen Riju’s school bag lying near Bhawani Cinema Hall in Kolkata’s Charu Market area. “The person happened to have seen the bag and also the identity card of my son. When we reached there, we also found Riju’s school blazer and shoes at a distance. We then lodged a missing complaint with the Charu Market police station,” Riju’s uncle, Anup Basak, said.
