PCPA to attend Lalgarh rally
Manoj Mahato, the newly-elected secretary of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA), announced on Wednesday that the PCPA being a “non-violent and apolitical outfit” will also be present in the Lalgarh rally on August 9 where Union railway minister Mamata Banerjee, human rights activist Medha Patkar and social activist Swami Agnivesh will be present.
“We are also against any kind of terror-tactics. So we will be there. We invite all the supporters of the PCPA to join the rally on August 9 in Lalgarh,” said Manoj.
Meanwhile, the security forces missed Maoist leader Rakhal by a whisker during an encounter at Madhupur in West Midnapore on Wednesday. Based on a specific input, security forces raided a forest near Memul village in Madhupur under the jurisdiction of Salboni police station on Wednesday afternoon. The Maoists triggered landmine explosions and succeeded in securing a safe exit route.

Telugu Dipak gets Sanskrit lessons in jail

Aug. 4: Telugu Dipak, the arrested top Maoist leader, is learning Sanskrit in the jail from a teacher. ADG (prisons) B.D. Sharma said, “We have roped in a Sanskrit teacher for him.” He added that 80 prisoners, including four Maoists, would appear for the Madhyamik examination in 2011. “Sukhsanti Baskey, Lalmohan Tudu, Kshiti Ranjan Mahato and Prasanta Mahato, all alleged Maoists who are now in prison will appear in the examination next year from the jail. Prasun Chatterjee who is also in prison will appear for the MA (history) examination. Sixty persons who have been arrested from Jangalmahal are now getting vocational training,” Mr Sharma said.
“We are trying to give impetus to the talent of the prisoners,” he added.
