Police arrests 4 for ganja smuggling

Four persons were arrested by a special staff port division (SSPD) team on Saturday morning for allegedly smuggling a consignment of ganja.

Acting on a tip-off a bus coming from Bhadrak in Orissa was stopped by the police at Princep Ghat at around 10 am.
After searching the bus, the police seized 21 kg of ganja. The kingpin, Niranjan Das, 53, of Burdwan was arrested along with Adhir Das, 35, Bapan Das, 24, and Nimai Das, 55, of Nadia.
During interrogation they confessed of being in the illegal trade for the past one year. They further revealed that the earlier consignments were sent to Burdwan and Nadia.
In the afternoon the four were produced at the Bankshall Court which has remanded them in jail custody for 14 days. The police is likely to file a prayer in the court on Monday to seek their remand for investigation.
