Power cut in Writers’ Buildings
A portion of the Writers’ Buildings, including chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s chamber plunged into darkness for around 15 minutes in the afternoon due to a snag in one of the transformers at the state secretariat.
The power cut started at around 4.50 pm and continued till 5.05 pm before supply was given from an alternative source. A senior official of the CESC said that there was no disruption in supply from their end.
Sources at the state public works department (PWD) said, “One of the transformers near gate number 3 of the Writers’ Buildings tripped and immediately a major portion of the Writers’ Buildings, including the chambers of the chief minister, chief secretary, home secretary, director general of police plunged into darkness. The VIP lift also stopped functioning.” The electrical division of the PWD was pressed into action and the supply was restored from an alternative source after 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the Salt Lake Stadium went into darkness for few minutes during a football match on Wednesday due to a fault in a power sub-station.
